I came across a new market place for freelancers today, where people or companies with too many projects on their hands can find someone to get the job done. Similarly, freelancers with too much time on their hands can find projects to place bids on.

I just quickly browsed through BizReef, but it looks pretty good at first glance. Registration is free, and you can instantly bid on, or post, jobs and projects.

What worries me about this freelance marketplace is that BizReef claims to be the place where you can find a “free market”, in other words: find a freelancer for the lowest possible price. I suspect this means freelancers in India, who can offer their services for much less than anyone in North America, are competing with the rest of the world. It is then up to the company to decide who they trust with their project.

As I’ve said before: you generally get what you pay for. I’m not at all against outsourcing to places like India, but for certain services it is better to stay at home! After all; if you are a US or Canadian company it’s nice to know where your freelancer lives if there is a problem. Otherwise, your money may end up in a hick-town without direct road access and your project could be lost in cyberspace without anything you can do to get your investment back.

Overall, I think it doesn’t harm to sign up for BizReef. You never know where your next project may come from!

For now, I actually don’t have time to bid on this freelance marketplace, but if and when I do, I will keep you posted on results.
